#and walking as meditative practice

For anyone wondering what it's like to be a therapist who is also a Fan of Things, one of my clients shared that labyrinth walking was a meditative practice for her and I DID have to work very hard not to say, "Oh yes, like my good buddy Thara Celehar from Witness for the Dead, it really did help him!"
I pulled it together and said something professional but whew, close one!
#closeness of blurting exaggerated for comedic effect#really what it was is that I did take about fifteen seconds while she was talking to figure out if knowing this was represented in a book#would be nice for the client#and decided no so didn't mention it#but I thought it was very cool! Encountered it in the book first as labyrinth specifically and assumed it was more of a fantasy thing#but no! It is a real thing that people who have access to a labyrinth do!#and we had a great conversation about how shifting physical environments changes thought patterns#and walking as meditative practice#witness for the dead#thara celehar#sass talks therapy

#tag talk#went on a walk today to my favorite bridge for the first time in like a month#accidentally interrupted a couple having sex behind one of the pillars so I apologized and crossed to the other side of the tracks#railroad bridge has walls and then embankments and then a little alcove at the very top below the road supports#so I like to meditate or nap right up at the top just under the road.#my meditation isn't anything fancy. Just basic stillness and mindfulness because I'm bad at doing nothing so it takes practice#anyway I did that for about thirty minutes and then lay down. and woke up two hours later. it felt so nice.#I love napping other places that aren't my bed.#then I went shopping when I got home and saw a train coming alongside the road so I pulled off onto a side road and watched it pass#idk. I like having time and space and energy to just do whatever I want.#go sleep under a bridge. take five minutes to watch the train pass. go to the back of the apartment complex and sit on the wall for a while#going outside and risking being perceived takes so much energy but I don't have work right now so I've got the energy to do what I want#I need to buy groceries but I think I'm just gonna get takeout again tonight from the family run Asian place down the road#and so my grocery shopping tomorrow.#I've been putting off groceries for a few days and I'm almost out of canned chile but I can make it another day.#the portions at the place down the road are huge so one order lasts me 3 meals. it's a really great place.#idk. today has been nice. my brother is gone for a week or so and I've no work and online class doesn't start for a few days#so I've just been chilling the fuck out.#and sure. I've been drinking more than I should. but I'm pivoting away from that as I'm sliding out of the depression hole.#so yeah. idk. I'm feeling pretty good. happy. chill.#I have to leave the house one more time for takeout but then I'll be done with my day

The History of Labyrinths: From Ancient Paths to Modern Mindfulness
There’s something quietly mesmerising about a labyrinth. Not the chaotic hedge mazes of childhood stories, but the ancient, singular-path designs etched into stone, sand, and memory across centuries and continents. Unlike a maze, which is designed to confuse and challenge, a labyrinth has no dead ends. Just one winding path that eventually leads you to the centre—and back out again. It’s not a…

Never really been a big comparer of the majesty of one name versus another. It's all about character. You can have the coolest guy named Sam and the lamest guy called Diabolicus. But today on Golf television, the list of players were, in this exact order:
Zalatoris
Smalley
#a funny#we aren't big sports watchers but stepdad is#though we enjoy golf enough to go mini putting#have played regular golf a few times before and it's not bad. it's basically just a lot of walking and occasionally hitting a ball#some golf courses have a practice area where you can just hit balls without needing to go retrieve them#it's kinda meditative to just hit something with a satisfying thonk

Tantra and Stillness: The Art of Inner Reflection
As the year winds down, I find myself drawn to the practice of stillness—a concept that lies at the very heart of Tantra. In this post, I’ll reflect on how cultivating stillness has shaped my journey and share practices for embracing…

Book Review: Being Peace by Thich Nhat Hanh
There’s a timeless invitation at the heart of spiritual practice—to discover a deep, unshakable peace within ourselves, one that needs no striving to achieve. In Being Peace, Thich Nhat Hanh reminds us that peace is not something outside to be attained; it’s a natural state within us, accessible in each moment we choose to be fully present. In these quiet moments of awareness, peace isn’t…

Simple Ways to Practice Magick Everyday
Say a small prayer or do a short meditation before you get out of bed in the morning.
Write down dreams or visions you had.
Stir your first cup of coffee or tea counterclockwise to banish negativity and bad luck or clockwise to bring positive energy.
Draw daily tarot or oracle cards (you can also use a pendulum) for guidance.
Cleansing yourself and home using sound or smoke.
Ancestor or spirit offerings
Pick out your clothes, shoes, jewelry... ect with intention.
Write a sigil or petition paper and burn it.
Take a ritual shower. You can spice it up with candles, herbs, and crystals, or you can simply step under the water and imagine all the negativity and bad energy washing off you. You can also recite a chant.
Every time you look into the mirror, say an affirmation
Take a walk outside and ground yourself to Mother Earth.
Dance!! Dancing is an excellent way to rise the energy, and it helps with opening the sacral and solar plexus chakra and getting in touch with the inner child.
